Did you know, Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the US labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. Labor Day constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on September 5, 1882, in New York City with a large parade. At least 20,000 people were there, and the workers had to give up a day’s pay to attend. There was also a lot of beer involved in the event. Today, Labor Day also marks the perceived end of the summer season.
